Social change action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Partners for Positive Action: Social Mobilization for HIV/AIDS Prevention & Support

SummaryText
This training manual promotes social mobilisation as a means for communities to increase local participation and women's empowerment in addressing HIV/AIDS. The five-day curriculum, developed in Nepal, imparts skills in advocacy, behaviour change communication and social marketing at national and grassroots levels. This publication is part of a series of four training manuals written for programme managers and trainers working on HIV/AIDS for use in building the capacity of non-governmental organisations, faith-based groups, and communities.

Training Objective
The overall objective of this training is to develop basic skills of mid-level field and programme managers in planning social mobilisation efforts at multiple levels to address HIV/AIDS issues in Nepal.

To ensure realistic expectations of users of this manual, we would like to clarify at the outset what the training is not. It is not a guide to organising groups at the front-line, grassroots level, nor is it an informational course on the basics of HIV/AIDS.

Layout of the Manual
The manual is organised according to the training days. Each training day is organised according to the sessions in the day.

Each session begins with a cover note page that identifies:
  • Session title and duration
  • Session objectives
  • Materials needed
  • Flip charts
  • Participant handouts
  • Team instruction cards
  • Notes to the facilitator
Handouts, homework and some quotations/proverbs are provided as well.
