Social change action with informed and engaged societies
As of March 15 2025, The Communication Initiative (The CI) platform is operating at a reduced level, with no new content being posted to the global website and registration/login functions disabled. (La Iniciativa de Comunicación, or CILA, will keep running.) While many interactive functions are no longer available, The CI platform remains open for public use, with all content accessible and searchable until the end of 2025.

Please note that some links within our knowledge summaries may be broken due to changes in external websites. The denial of access to the USAID website has, for instance, left many links broken. We can only hope that these valuable resources will be made available again soon. In the meantime, our summaries may help you by gleaning key insights from those resources.

A heartfelt thank you to our network for your support and the invaluable work you do.

Masters in Social Change Communication

We are delighted that the new Communication for Social Change courses and research at Loughborough University London have been featured in the issue of The Drum Beat published last week that includes for example: an overview of the Institute for Media and Creative Industries ; the Global Communication and Development Masters course details ; and, some of the research undertaken by the faculty – eg Audience Responses to Migration Stories: Research Component of Voices of African Migrants.

Those introductory summaries include links to the the full information and online processes on the Lougborough University London site – for example How to Apply and Staff Profiles.

We would very much welcome your response, ideas and questions related to our work. Please do use this forum – either reply by email or log-in at the link above – to post and share your comments and contributions so that we all may benefit. Along with my colleagues we will respond.

With many thanks

Dear Mr Tufte, Just a quick comment. I was wondering if your cousre covers Theatre and especially theatre for development. Our practice in UK, Africa Asia & the Middle East has used participatory theatre to address many issues such as reforestion in Sudan, health and AIDS, women's income generation, human rights, child rights etc.Whatever methods of communication are used there are some that are more appropiate in certain situations but we have found that our Small World Theatre methods can be very effetive in deserts, shanty towns, rural and remote areas, innercities, forrests and working with refugees. We combine PRA, SEED SCALE and other development strategies with theatre for behavioural change as well as advocay.

Please get in touch if you would like to know more of our work.
